What is The Healing Wheel?

A Place Where Your Healing Journey Begins and Continues...

Edifying Culture, Empowering Women, Enhancing Communities

The Healing Wheel Retreat functions as a means of closing the gap between the therapeutic support traditionally offered to Black women versus the ways in which WE KNOW we heal: we heal best when we are in the company of other caring, heart-centered women who share similar backgrounds, who have expressed some of our same concerns, and who have identified and are willing to share tools that may help all us along our healing journey.

We know that traditional therapy is an effective solution to many of our challenges, but there are aspects of healing that can best be facilitated in the company of other women who have also made their personal healing a priority.

By providing sacred and nurturing healing spaces alongside private and accessible healing opportunities for those negatively impacted by trauma, we are doing what we can to ensure that our community of families has an opportunity to create a future that is not informed by unresolved trauma that manifests in unhealthy ways.

The saying goes, “When you heal a woman, you heal a nation.” Through sustained communication and meaningful engagement, we continue to invest in the healing of the women we serve. We acknowledge that it takes time to reverse the impact  systems of trauma have had on our ability to make choices that lead to improved outcomes for our lives. Through our guidance, our participants create a care plan that will lead to more positive, personal--and hopefully--permanent  resolutions that they will implement beyond their participation in our retreats and events. We take a sustained approach to the sacred journey toward healing, as it  is an ever evolving process. We also know the journey begins with the decision to begin, and feeling supported in that decision is what makes our community so effective. Our spiritual growth sometimes requires a witness, and our engagement practices ensure that you feel, supported and seen throughout your journey.

Trauma experienced by Black women, in particular, negatively impacts the way we show up in our families and communities, and contributes to the transfer of poverty across generations. Being trauma-informed includes preventing, recognizing, and responding to many types of trauma. Crucial to this recognition is understanding that different forms of systematic oppression, including discrimination and exploitative practices, are traumatic. The continuous cycle of trauma and the regular onslault of oppressive practices calls for the development of healing-centered solutions that will insulate and inform us of better ways to navigate these challenges. These small shifts and meaningful changes will also have an impact on multiple generations, in the best of ways.

Engaging in this work is contributing greatly to the healing of our nation. We know that we can do this, even if we do so one woman at a time. Join us! It will be great!
